The Month of Rubies
Hello Friends and Family,
Well, here we are, halfway through 2022 and finally, masks have been lifted and we are looking up. While I do wish you all a very happy July and checkpoint for 2022, for this blog, I intend to specifically address all the colourful, wonderful, women wisdom seekers.
Since the birthstone of July is the Ruby (a personal childhood favourite), I thought it important to note the comparisons we find in scripture. Many of us know the quote “she is far more precious than rubies” (Pro. 3:15) and usually assume this to be the same comparison we find later to a virtuous woman, which is true for the proverb 31:10 but in context, this quote (Pro. 3:15; 8:11) is referring to the personified ‘Lady Wisdom’, who is not to be compared to anything desired under the sun for she is far greater than anything else on earth which we can attain.
“Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies” (Pro. 31:10), the value of a virtuous woman is placed far above any amount of precious red treasured jewel, not only in God’s eyes but to anyone who may come across her.
While the focus here for women is to remember our value and the beauty of worthiness, God has likened the female to one more worthy, she is ‘Lady Wisdom’ for which there is no comparison since it was with wisdom that the earth and the heavens were created, and in her, there is life and peace.
Proverbs is one of the great three wisdom literatures we find in scripture and the word ‘proverbs’ refers to a short and clever saying, containing some form of necessary wisdom. We can look to the book of Proverbs for deep eternal wisdom, which when applied, breaths peace and life. The book begins with a link to King Solomon of Israel, who had asked God for wisdom, birthing his thousands of writings on botany, zoology, entomology, musicology, and more, resulting in him becoming known as one of the wisest men in the ancient world.
The proverbs teach that just by reading these wisdom literatures, we can acquire wisdom when applied, like a skill or lesson on how to live best in a world ultimately designed by God.
“She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.” (Pro. 3:15-18)
Strive for virtue, strive for worthiness, but stive for wisdom and you will find life and PEACE.
Thank you for reading.
Lots of love and remember to strive. You are worth it.
